Thiamine or vitamin B1 is one of eight of the B vitamins and is found in foods such as yeast, cereal grains, nuts, seeds, beans and meat (pork and organ meat) and of which provides the body with vitamin B1 naturally.
Thiamine helps the body convert food (in the form of carbohydrates) into energy producing glucose to give your body more energy.
Vitamin B1 is also known as an anti-stress vitamin because the brain uses thiamine to help convert glucose or blood sugar into fuel, and without it the brain rapidly runs out of energy.
This can lead to fatigue, irritability, anxiety and depression, and even thoughts of suicide.
If your diet is such that it doesn’t naturally give you enough thiamine in your body then you will need to supplement your diet with a vitamin B1 supplement.
The Benefits of Taking Vitamin B1 Supplements
Taking a B1 supplement helps with and maintains cellular and organ functions. It is also used for digestive problems, including diarrhoea and poor appetite, by producing acid in the stomach for better digestion.
Another benefit of taking vitamin B1 supplements is for those that regularly take drugs or alcohol.
A drug or alcohol rapidly burns up vitamin B1 in the body. This quick burn up of vit B1 brings about a temporary feeling of being happy. But when the B1 is used up brings about a state of depression. As drugs and alcohol use up B1 quickly it is beneficial to take vitamin B1 supplements daily when coming off drugs to help avoid convulsions which accompany this B1 deficiency.
Vitamin B1 must be used with other supplements to keep a balance within the body.
